China Has Accepted 139,900 Trademark Applications for Territorial Extension of International Registration

On September 30, 2009, the accumulated number of international registration of trademarks accepted by China hit 139,900, moving China into first position among the members of the Madrid Union in the number of annual applications for territorial extension for four consecutive years. This information was released by FU Shuangjian, Deputy Director of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) at the 20th Anniversary Symposium for China's Entering Madrid System for the International Registration of Trademarks on October 18, 2009.
FU Shuangjian noted that, during the past twenty years, China set up comparatively well-rounded mechanisms for international registration of trademarks under the Madrid Agreement and the Madrid Protocol, cultivated a masterful talent team for handling the registrations, and popularized the knowledge of the international registration of trademarks, among other notable achievements.
FU Shuangjian expressed that the SAIC will promote the implementation of China's trademark strategy, efficiently utilize Madrid system, effectively enhance the international protection of trademarks, establish China's trademarks around the world, and strive to develop China's own trademarks so as to boost China’s economy and society to develop fast and well.
